Since Canada`s literary tradition is fairly new, it is only natural that there should exist a genuine concern for identity. This sampling of Canadian writting is the result of an attempt to familiarize the reader with Canadian sensibilities in literature and the way the rest of the world perceives this "Canadianism" at the threshold of the twenty-first century. For this I hope that the essays and the literary voices gathered in this publication make an important contribution to our understanding of what defines Canadian identity through literature and the arts.
