(...) Whether by car, by boat or above all, on foot, to travel through the Cretan landscape is to undertake a journey of wonder bordering on awe. Crete is a world of contrasts and, yet, of harmonies where imposing rugged mountains and wild rock-strewn slopes alternate with plains and valleys dotted with groves of cypress and chestnut trees offering their protection to neighbouring vineyards, orchards of fig trees and banana plantations. In this world the staircases of Minoan palaces seem to sculpt the very air with their precise geometries. (...) With the art of photography one can attempt to capture at least a small portion of the island’s soul. Perhaps the best guides in this quest are one owns instincts and this land’s intrinsic beauty and its millennia - spanning history. In this work we have tried to pry open some of the secrets and hidden treasures of this land, both natural and man, made. (...)
